Over the years, Ron Lindner became a leader in the sport-fishing world. He continued to fish avidly for all freshwater fish, still averaging about 200 days on the water each year, fishing both freshwater and quite a bit of saltwater. Incurably curious, he continued to explore the where, when, why’s and hows of fish habits and behavior.
Ron was actively involved at Lindner Media Productions, which specializes in producing educational fishing programs, educational videos, national TV commercials, product sales presentations, point of purchase product videos shown internationally in sporting goods stores, and on the internet.
He was intensely interested in the growing power of the internet and its social media aspects. He jumped in with both feet and pioneered the development of Target Walleye, a social media phenomenon. He’s also worked on AnglingBuzz, a mixture of T.V., social media and the internet, which is finding an important, new place in the media.
Ron was inducted into the Normark Hall of Fame and was also first inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame as a Legendary Angler, then later enshrined as an educator. He is also in the Minnesota Fishing Hall of Fame. Brothers, Ron and Al Lindner co-founded In-Fisherman Communications Network. They produced most of the early television and radio shows, as well as the In-Fisherman Magazine. Ron has been honored by the Minnesota Magazines and Publications Association and received the Hedley Donovan Award for his contributions to the Minnesota magazine industry. He also founded Lindy Tackle, invented the Lindy Rig, the NoSnagg sinker, the stand-up jig, the wire “R-Bend” on spinner baits, and much more, like pioneer work on today’s underwater cameras and the modern rain suit.
In pursuing his dream of working in the world of sports fishing, Ron wore many hats – professional guide, tackle and equipment designer, inventor (three patents and 30 unique designs to his credit), tackle manufacturer, inventor, professional tournament angler, promoter, writer, publisher, book author, television producer, radio host, internet and social media producer, and perhaps most importantly, an indefatigably curious fisherman and consummate innovator.
Ron’s work in angling theory includes co-authorship of ten books. He also has written hundreds of published articles; produced thousands of radio and TV scripts; developed a comprehensive lake, river and reservoir identification classification system and a fish response calendar; and developed the famed F+L+P=S (Fish + Location + Presentation = Success) formula, described as the algebra of angling. His early scientific approach to the sport, along with other pioneers, provided the foundation, framework, and language for today’s modern sport fishing forum.
