Bill Lindner is a nationally recognized outdoor photographer in both fresh and saltwater fishing, hunting and food photography arenas. His unique underwater and dramatic action, still images have been widely published in catalogs, magazines, books, postcards, calendars and cookbooks. His videography appears in advertising, the internet and television.
A lifelong sportsman, Bill’s knowledge and passion for fishing and the outdoors is reflected in every image. Based in Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes, his assignments, however, have taken him from Alaska to the Caribbean and Mexico, to the South Pacific and beyond.
His photography and videography appear in countless advertising, packaging and catalogs for companies including St. Croix Rods, Johnson Outdoors, Rapala, Cabala’s, Storm Lures, Terminator Lures, Berkley/Pure Fishing, Abu Garcia, Plano, Frabill, Aqua-Vu underwater cameras, Humminbird Depth Finders, and Daiwa. He has also shot food layouts for over 50 cookbooks and wide variety of product advertising.
From the early 1980’s to 1995, Bill worked for Creative Publishing International (formerly Cy DeCosse Inc). Here he became principal photographer of the Hunting & Fishing Library series of high quality how-to books which are loaded with stunning action, underwater and beauty images. Later, he contributed hundreds of still shots to the all-new North American Membership’s Fishing Club series of books, eventually totaling over 40. In this period, he also did a considerable amount of work for North American Fisherman magazine, which included most of its cover shots.
Achievements
In his own right, Bill is a top notch angler who has won three major Canadian Bass Tournaments. He is also a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America and has won numerous “Best in Craft” photography awards. In 2013, Bill was inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame as a Legendary Communicator for his significant and lasting contributions to angling. He also holds a seat with the Minnesota Fishing Hall of Fame and the Normark Hall of Fame.
Bill’s magazine cover credits are long and wide including Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, Salt Water Sportsman, Lake Country Journal, North American Fisherman, In-Fisherman publications and Minnesota Volunteer and Krause Ice Guide, to name a few. His images represent advertising for Fishouflage, Frabill, Rapala, Aqua-Vu, Gander Mountain and Maurice Sporting Goods including their attention-getting in-store displays and billboards.
As a videographer, Bill is the very best in the business. He has filmed, concepted and produced product commercials for Rapala, Berkley/Pure Fishing, Humminbird, Plano, Frabill, Live Target Lures, Johnson Outdoors, Northland Tackle, Shimano, G. Loomis, Lund Boats, Stratos Boats, VMC Hooks and In-Fisherman Television and shot film for The History Channel (Modern Marvels), National Geographic, and the National Wildlife Federation.
Interests
With an added interest and strong background in food photography, Bill, with his wife, Kitty, a food writer, created the concept and produced a cookbook entitled, “Recipes from Nature.” They have also worked on documentary-style still-photo essays for a variety of food columns in local & national publications, including MN DNR magazine, The Volunteer; Lake Country Journal; Fishing the Wild Side, Bass Pro Outdoor World; and The Florida Sportsman. Topics include fish, game birds, big and small game, and foraging for wild edibles, maple syrup and wild rice, and shiitake mushroom cultivation.
Bill Lindner is beyond passionate about his craft. He is willing to climb the highest mountain, swim the deepest sea, withstand tundra-like temperatures on the ice…all for the sake of “the shot”. He is driven by the power of his creative mind and deep appreciation for the outdoors; once combined, always results in something magical. Bill Lindner’s photography/videography is an art form—all its own.
Bill’s extensive wild rice documentary style photography has been shown in art exhibits such as the St. Paul Art Crawl, the Cass County (MN) Historical Society, and the Science Museum of Minnesota. His wild rice images have won “Best in Show” in the Twin Cities area, and “Best of Show” from the Minnesota Historical Society.
